Q
|
What are your hangers made from?
|
|
A
|
Most of the hangers are made from alder,
a hardwood that grows in the northwest. We
use it because it is attractive and finishes well. For some hidden
components we use high quality plywood for strength and uniformity.
|
Q
|
How are the hangers finished?
|
|
A
|
We use commercial stains to
achieve uniform colors on the hangers. They are then finished with
multiple coats of a water based lacquer. The hangers are
completely sealed both inside and outside so no oils from the wood can
contact your fabric.
|
Q
|
How do I attach the hanger to the
wall?
|
|
A
|
The hangers have keyhole slots
on the back which slip over the head of a screw. (see the
installation instructions for each hanger) You can use any screw
that will hold in the wall and which has a head that fits the keyhole
slot. The weight is distributed over several screws. So, if
you are hanging a moderate weight hanging on a wall constructed from
drywall you seldom need any special anchors. We just use simple
1" long screws.

| Q |
My quilt is
wider than your longest Contemporary Hanger. How can I hang it? |
| A |
For very large
quilts we recommend ordering two Contemporary Hangers that are each one half the
required length. (For a 100" wide quilt order two 50"
hangers.) The two hangers are then mounted end to end. When
ordered at the same time we can often make the two hangers from one
piece of wood so they have similar grains. Please tell us you will
be using both hangers on the same quilt.
|
| Q |
Can I
use two Magnetic Hangers to hang a quilt larger than 50" wide? |
| A |
This is a more complicated
question. With the Magnetic hangers the quilt weight is
distributed over a series of pins and magnets. For small quilts the
weight on each pin is not significant. But if a wider quilt is
also longer that means more weight is applied to each pin. For a
very light quilt it may be OK. But, for larger quilts, at some
point the weight will be too much for the pins and magnets. For
this reason we generally recommend a Contemporary Hanger for larger
quilts. A Hidden Rug Hanger is also an option if you attach a felt
strip to the back of the quilt.

| Q |
Can you
make a hanger that is 43 ½" long? |
| A |
Yes, any on our custom hangers
can be made in ½" increments. To order online just add the
next size hanger to the shopping cart (44" in this example) and add
a note in the "Comments" section of the order form requesting
the special length. We will send you a confirming email. |
